Thought of the Week

  • "Having OCD is like being allergic to life - every waking moment is spent in a state of mental hyper-sensitivity.”

Why am I returning to this blog after so long?

During this next year, this blog will "document" Devin's OCD, and the improvements she makes. In no way is this blog meant to make anyone feel sorry for our trials. We know that trials are merely blessings in wolves' clothing. Because any improvements will be minor and subtle as the days go by, I want to write it all down so that I can look back and see how far Devin has come. If you are a first-time reader, I suggest you begin by reading this post. It will give you some background and show you a starting point. Comments are welcome, but please be kind. This is not an easy illness to deal with. We're all just doing the best we can.

Friendship

Ask yourself these questions:

-What was the last kind thing you did for someone?
-What do you do when you hear someone saying unkind things about another person?
-What have you done to help your friends be better people?

I learned something this week. I realized that we, the home and visiting teachees can have a big effect on how our home and visiting teachers do their jobs. Last week, I mentioned how my visiting teacher was more than just a once a month visitor, that we've gone to her when we needed help, that she's brought us gas, called when she knew I needed a call, brought me goodies. And she came up to me afterward and told me that I had helped her to be a better visiting teacher, and that she hadn't always done a good job at it. I realized that sometimes we have to ask them for help, invite them to serve. A few weeks ago, the bishop told us that we need to go to our home teachers for healing blessings. Our home and visiting teachers are our stewards, and we need to go to them. And if we don't, we may be held accountable. And often, it's not just about them helping us, it's about us helping each other. Become your home and visiting teachers' friends.
