Thought of the Week

  • "Having OCD is like being allergic to life - every waking moment is spent in a state of mental hyper-sensitivity.”

Why am I returning to this blog after so long?

During this next year, this blog will "document" Devin's OCD, and the improvements she makes. In no way is this blog meant to make anyone feel sorry for our trials. We know that trials are merely blessings in wolves' clothing. Because any improvements will be minor and subtle as the days go by, I want to write it all down so that I can look back and see how far Devin has come. If you are a first-time reader, I suggest you begin by reading this post. It will give you some background and show you a starting point. Comments are welcome, but please be kind. This is not an easy illness to deal with. We're all just doing the best we can.

Learning in the Priesthood

by President Henry B. Eyring (priesthood session)

Three wonderful things in place to speed our growth in the priesthood:

1. A president who knows how to sit in council with the members of his quorum.
  • Treat the opinions of your quorum as if they are the wisest men in the world. Wait until all who would speak has spoken. Listen. Follow the spirit.
2. Great faith in Jesus Christ that leads to great love for each other.
  • The priesthood holders who learn well together always seem to me to have great peacemakers among them.
  • It is a gift to help people find common ground when others are seeing differences, to see that what someone else said was a contribution rather than a correction.
3. A shared conviction that our overarching priesthood purpose is to labor for the salvation of men.
  • This shared conviction brings unity.
If you will be diligent and obedient in the priesthood, treasures of spiritual knowledge will be poured out upon you. You will grow in your power to resist evil and to proclaim the truth that leads to salvation. You will find joy in the happiness of those you lead toward exaltation. Your family will become a place of learning.
